Valley Forge Engagement Session | Kaelyn & Mike

This engagement session is special in a few ways: I’ve known Kaelyn for 2 years as we both worked together at Lifetouch taking school pictures, I also met Maureen working at Lifetouch, and I have never done a photo shoot almost entirely in the rain!  It was an omen when Maureen and I were driving up to Valley Forge and my wind shield wiper just broke off…  Luckily we had just gotten off the highway and were able to find a Jiffy Lube without too much trouble.. phew.

We pulled into the parking lot behind the Valley Forge Museum and waited as the rain progressively got worse & I tested my new wipers… Suddenly it didn’t seem like such a good idea to go through with the engagement session.  It was raining pretty hard and it didn’t look like it was going to stop.  But Kaelyn & Mike were prepared to get soaked and so were we;)  I’m always willing to do whatever it takes to get unique images and I actually was excited to be able to photograph in the rain since it’s totally different from what I normally do.

Most of the shots that I took down below were taken underneath a large umbrella held by Maureen.  It really made me realize how much I move around to get the best angle to photograph from.  It took a little while to get into a good rhythm using the umbrella.. actually once we got to the point where we were all soaked and didn’t care I think we just started to have fun and enjoy the evening.

I had such a good time with Kaelyn & Mike.  It was so liberating to just be out in the rain getting soaked in the beautiful open landscape of Valley Forge.  As the session wore on I was amazed to realize that it had stopped raining and I could step out from under the umbrella!  They sky looked so dark blue and ominous that I specifically took care to capture it during out final shots at sunset.

All in all this was a very special session with a wonderful couple.  I can’t thank you guys enough for being so awesome!  I hope you enjoy your pictures.

p.s.
The last image in this post is a panoramic shot that I took just after we had finished and I looked at the sunset and said WOW.  It’s actually four images stitched together.  Enjoy.

    Matt,
I just viewed the engagement photo session of KAelyn and Mike and was so impressed with your work I had to let you know. Beautiful! Of course you had a beautiful subject, (my daughter) :-).
I agree…The sky WAS amazing! Glad you went through with it despite the weather and got some really nice pictures!
Kaelyn has a good eye for photography and has proven it once again by choosing you for her special day.
I’m looking forward to meeting you at the wedding.
    Sincerely, Evelyn Michaels
